Birds on the Brain

I have been so thoroughly enjoying making birds this year. I've got them in nests, LED lit trees and on wreaths. There are some still available at Triptych for another couple of days.

Here is a special order one that I just finished.

Started off with some brocade, some metallic gold cotton, metallic flat yarn and regular wool yarn, plus the pattern that I finally created to make the kind of birds that have lots of feathers!
Still experimenting with how to make wire legs so they can stand on their own.

Here are some tucked into wreaths and home decor, a new area of interest this year. Will be making more of them as each season comes upon us.

Birds by Artist Victoria O'Neill at Frog Hollow Art Show Nov 10, 11 and 12

I've been making all kinds of birds for many years, but this year's theme is BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS!

Also trying my hand at wreath making for upcoming shows, tucking my birdies into them. I am making wreath birds with outdoor fabric so they are waterproof and won't fade in the winter sun.

Next stop is Frog Hollow Art Show Nov 10, 11 and 12. Come see me for birds, wearable art jackettes, dresses, shawls, and various textile arts including cats, chickens, angels, vases with flowers and more!

Textile Art Birds by Artist ictoria O'Neill

I love 3 dimensional fiber art. Making birdies with various fabrics and using felt to back the feathers. It's a bit of a challenge to make them stand on legs/feet. Going to pop some into nests too. The standing ones are about 9" long x 5" high, the one in the nest is 9" long by about 3" high.

Summer Respite

It's been a busy year, now taking some time to regroup my studio. It was looking and functioning hunky dory and then rug hooking supplies and weaving supplies were added.

I have an entire shelving unit filled with fringe blankets ready to become jackettes, and many quilts that will becoming coats. They will most likely debut in November at Frog Hollow Art Show.

A new skill: free motion handwriting with my sewing machine. I hope to integrate more of this going forward. I am a Baha'i and these are some words of wisdom from the Prophet and Founder of The Baha'i Faith, written in a book called The Hidden Words.
