Virgin of Guadalupe 12" Hanging Doll Ornament

I have been in love with the image of The Virgin of Guadalupe ever since seeing her while traveling throughout Mexico and Central America in the 70's.

Here is a 12" Virgin of Guadalupe Hanging Doll Ornament from a recent series of one of a kind dolls created with Robert Kaufman fabric. She can be purchased on Etsy

I will be making more of these for upcoming spring events. Stay tuned for that.

Paper House Luminaries

So happy that all the Christmas Cats found good homes, and a check for ALL the proceeds went to PACS!

Now busy making tiny houses with LED votives inside to deliver to my local friends. Have also mailed some hither and yon. This one was made with handmade batik paper. Love the way the light shines through the wax areas, but the paper is a bit flimsy.

Double sided scrapbook cardstock makes more sturdy houses.

The PDF pattern was downloaded from Catheholden a few years ago, and just now getting around to making them. Have made about 30 so far. On a tiny house roll.

I was using the little clothespins but found them so fragile, easy to fall apart when opening and closing. So modified by punching tiny holes in the seam on either side of the top roof panel and threading with ribbon. I knotted both ends of the ribbon so it wouldn't come back through the punched holes when opening and closing the house to turn the light on inside.

One of a Kind Wearable Art Shawls from Sew Bee Mine

The idea for one of a kind wearable art shawls using vintage embroideries and needlepoints has been germinating for awhile, and just now bringing it to fruition. I have made some one of a kind wearable art coats but they are limited as to who they will fit. Shawls are one size fits all.

Every creative endeavor consists of coming up with an idea in the first place, then solving one problem after another: including what size/shape? assembling and figuring out how to integrate the  different components together, how to line it and what to line it with, what kind of fringe, etc. Each one presents it's own challenges depending on the image and accompanying fabrics.

Here are a couple of firsts of the series.  (There were many throw it in the trash moments trying to figure this all out.) The final pattern is 66" long and 30" wide. Add a couple of inches to this one with the pom pom fringe. The focal point here in this folkloric shawl is a huge vintage needlepoint piece found in a shoppe out in Lancaster PA, coupled with fabulous folk art bark cloth.
